This tour starts at Earl Grey's Monument in the centre of Newcastle. The tour guide will meet you on Grey Street next to the Prett A Manger Cafe and will proceed down to the Historic Quayside, around to the Castle Keep - where the city gets its name from - and finally finish at the Monument again where your tour will end. This tour takes around two hours depending on weather and other pedestrians. It is suggested that you wear all weather clothing and walking shoes as the weather can be unpredictable and the terrain at points steep.

On this half-day tour, we will focus on two of the forts at the east end of the wall - Segedunum and Arbeia. Both forts are home to fantastic reconstructions of the Roman way of life -such as the commanding officer's house and Roman Gatehouse in Arbeia. We will start the tour at Arbeia Roman Fort and explore the site and museum of this multi-cultural settlement where Mesopotamians and Britians lived, worked and married side by site. Explore the fantastic reconstruction of the commanding officer's house and discover the Mediterranean home away from home these men would have experienced. Segedunum - now called Wallsend was home to the mixed cavalry and infantry unit of Belgians. This tour is great for those who love history, wish to discover more about the Romans while being close to a urban area.

From Earl Grey Tea's genesis and effect though to Newcastle Glass and Silverware your local guide will show you the cultural achievements of this city.

The Cultural Walking Tour starts at the Earl Grey's Monument in the centre of Newcastle. Accompanied with your guide, you walk along Blackett Street and onto New Bridge Street West where you discuss the Charles Avison Building and The Laing Art Gallery.

You then proceed down John Dobson Street, after which you turn west onto Market Street and head down Deen Street for a short distance to the Theater Royal before proceeding onto High Bridge Street.

After leaving High Bridge Street, you will head south down the Bigg Market to St Nicholas Square and the Cathedral itself. You will then proceed to the Castle Keep and the High Level Bridge which was built by Robert Stephenson where you will be shown some of the famous riverside sights of the Tyne.

From the bridge you will walk up Westgate Road to Neville Street and the Central Station. From there you will go up Pink Lane before re-joining Westgate Road for a short time before walking around the Town walls. You will next walk to Gallowgate and down Blackett Street back to the Monument where the tour finishes.

Hello and thank you for The World Changers Tour.  The Tour meets at Earl Grey's Monument on the day of your booking. We will be standing next to the Prett A Manger Cafe at the top of Grey Street prior to the tour. The Tour does not go down to the quayside in Newcastle. This means it is less physically demanding than the Historic tour. This having been said we always suggest wearing all weather clothing and walking footwear.
