Soar above Monmouthshire in South Wales on a 1-hour sunrise or sunset hot air balloon flight. Float over the Usk Valley in the Brecon Beacons, admiring the bird’s-eye views of rolling hills, lush countryside, and traditional villages. Listen to the pilot’s commentary, and afterward, receive a glass of Champagne and souvenir flight certificate. Upgrade to choose a sunrise or sunset flight on a wider choice of days, including weekends and UK bank holidays.

Meet your pilot and crew at the Village Hall in Llanarth, situated between Abergavenny and Raglan, at about 6am-6:30am for a sunrise flight, or about 6pm for a sunset flight. Exact times will vary according to sunset and sunrise times.

Then, depending on wind conditions, choose to watch or help with the balloon preparation for a launch here, or travel onward to a different, nearby site for balloon preparation and launch.

Either way, listen to a safety briefing from your pilot, and then hop aboard your balloon, which holds a maximum of 16 people. Then, hold tight as you take off and float into the skies above Monmouthshire.

As you fly, look down over the Usk Valley as it winds through the beautiful Brecon Beacons. Listen to your pilot’s commentary as you drift over picturesque countryside, villages, and landmarks, and take photos of the stunning bird’s-eye views stretching toward the Wye Valley.

After about an hour in the air, come in to land, where your return transfers will be waiting for you. Choose to watch or take part in folding or packing the balloon away, and celebrate your flight with a glass of chilled Champagne or beer, or soft drinks.

Lastly, travel back to Llanarth to collect your flight certificate: the perfect keepsake to show off to your friends and family back home.

Please note: the balloon flight takes approximately one hour, but the whole experience lasts 3-4 hours. It’s recommended that you wear clothes suitable for a country walk at the time of year, and if you wish, wear a hat to protect your head from the heat of the balloon burners. In case of bad weather, balloon flights will be cancelled.

Accommodation is provided by Plas Dinas Country House or Bodysgallen Hall & Spa, both attractions in their own right. Your tour will include an introduction to Edward I’s campaign against the native Welsh Prince Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, giving you a deep unique insight into Wales' UNESCO world heritage listed castles and setting the stage for your experience-break.

Day 1
You will travel along the North Wales coast to Rhuddlan castle to see the remarkable and little-known gem which once played a key role in Edward's military success. Continue on to Conwy Castle and the World famous Caernarfon Castle, with its renowned hexagonal towers modelled on those at Constantinople, the Castle has overseen the investiture of the heir to the British throne for over 800 years.

Dinner will be served at your hotel.

Day 2
Following a hearty Welsh breakfast you will visit the nearby Llyn peninsula where the town of Criccieth is overlooked by its namesake castle on the promontory hill. This part of Wales is home to many ancient hill-forts heading back thousands of years but Criccieth offers a rare glimpse to the Welsh prince’s response to English incursions in their borders. From here you head to Harlech Castle, the site of many famous battles between the native Welsh and the powerful English armies. After lunch travel north through the beautiful scenery of Snowdonia to cross into the mysterious Island of Anglesey, spiritual home of the Druids in ancient times but more recently the setting for the near-perfect fortress of Beaumaris; a castle so intricate that its costly construction nearly bankrupted England.

Dinner will be served at your hotel.
